Some words of wisdom

Positive Reflections on 2020 27th Dec  2020

I have grown as an author this year, partly because I have not been spending hours sitting in a car or selling lego at weekend exhibitions. The virus and confinements helped us to relook at our business, change a few aspects and funnily enough improve our lives.

I know we are fortunate, and I am grateful we were able to make the best out of the changes brought upon us by the pandemic.

I have published three books and learnt more about the indie publishing world with each one.

I have learnt I am not brilliant at marketing through social media but deciding to write a weekly blog and to interview other authors has been a step in the right direction.

I have an email list, it may be small, but it is a start.

I have prepared some exclusive freebie’s for my email list which will be available in 2021.

I have written many words in my writing hut and it doesn’t leak anymore.

I have made new writer friends on social media.

I have experienced cycling up swiss mountains and survived to tell the tales. The views compensated for any emotional and physical breakdowns along the way!

We tried and loved a week-long cycle tour, learning about my endurance and the equipment. Our plans for a longer cycle tour have been pushed into 2021, more anticipation and prep time so not all bad.

Our forest garden, despite not being able to buy plants in the spring, has developed and produced more food than expected. The mild winter, warm spring, wet June and sunny autumn helped with bumper crops.

I bought a polytunnel and it’s been successful, I was picking red tomatoes in November. My new food dehydrator was fantastic for preserving all the surplus fruits and tomatoes. We have shelves full of chutneys and dried fruit and a freezer full of fruit tarts and cakes.

My large, wonderful family has remained covid 19 free and although we’ve not been back to visit since the end of January, we do see them on our computer screen.

We were lucky to have snow on Christmas day and sunshine on boxing day. We enjoyed a cold, snow in face walk on Christmas day, and even built a snowman, he was no taller than a mug. I enjoyed a sunny, blue-sky walk in the white wonderland where we live on boxing day.

It has been a quieter and calmer life.

I look forward to new cycle adventures, continual learning about being an author, watching our forest garden grow, visiting family, and publishing more books in 2021.
